Family “Quarantine” Time – Day # 8 Idea

March 23rd, 2020

By way of reminder, Day # 7’s Idea was to have “church” at home. Gather your family around a table or on your sectional sofa and read sacred scriptures, practice spiritual rituals, and pray (there are many people to pray for including those throughout the world who are working everyday to keep us safe & healthy).

Day # 8 Idea

Today’s idea emerged during my family’s discussion yesterday when we had “church” at home. We talked about philanthropy and the original meaning of this word. The original meaning was, “the love of others.” Loving others can be expressed in many ways other than just donating money. Some have talked about this topic in terms of donating one’s time, talent and treasure.

My family discussed how we can be loving others during this time and here are a few ideas that emerged for us: 1) grocery shop for our elderly parents (my wife did, this morning), 2) check to see if those we know, who don’t have a lot of resources, have the necessary technology needed at home to participate in distance learning, and 3) contribute to food banks that are serving the community.

There are enumerable ways to “love others”, take the time to discuss how your family can during these unprecedented times.

Please share your experiences as you implement my ideas or any others you have implemented with your family.
