What can families learn from Vito Corleone (Godfather II)?
February 17th, 2021
Robert De Niro won an Academy Award for his performance as Vito Corleone in the 1974 film The Godfather: Part II (making Brando and De Niro the only people to win Oscars for playing the same character).
There is a lot families should learn NOT to do that Di Niro’s character Vito Corleone did in the movie. Just for starters…don’t hurt, kill or wipe out others! Don’t break the law!..and so forth.
But there is also a couple of attributes that Vito Corleone reflected that are important to the success of families. They are, commitment and loyalty to family. There are a lot of “challenging” external forces that families encounter and if the family culture is not strong, it can cause fractures within the family. So it is important for successful families to not only look after their financial capital, but to also invest into their family’s culture (human and social capitals) ensuring strong bonds of commitment and loyalty.
