Whether it’s your parents and/or grandparents who have created the family’s wealth, your readiness as a “Nextgener” can have a meaningful impact on your family and your wealth. It also directly affects your own happiness and well-being.  Most nextgeners have serious concerns they will some day need to address, ranging from never having talked about the family’s wealth to their role in stewarding and growing the family’s wealth.

The primary reason that family wealth dissipates in a few generations is a breakdown in what we refer to as the business of the family (not the family business). The business of the family has to do with how a family makes decisions together, how they communicate about important topics, and how the next generation is prepared, for example. In essence, the business of the family has to do with preparing the family for their assets, versus preparing the assets for the family. This index will provide an indication of strengths and opportunities pertaining to the important aspects of the business of the family.
