What can the Rising Generation learn from Todd Martin?
February 23rd, 2021
Todd Martin is an American retired tennis player. He reached the men’s singles final at the 1994 Australian Open and the 1999 US Open and achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 4.
On a related note, Kobe Bryant was interviewed a few years ago on the Tennis Channel regarding his book Legacy and the Queen. During his interview he talked about how one way he was teaching his daughters to navigate life was to learn from playing tennis – especially playing singles. “…you’re out there on your own and you have to figure out, I just hit three bad shots…but those have nothing to do with the next shot. Put those behind me and move on….Tennis is a great metaphor for managing one’s emotions.”
Todd Martin took what Kobe Bryant said about the game of tennis and took it to the highest level of performance in his life.
So what the Rising Generation can learn from Todd Martin is to make sure that you put yourself out there, without the support of family and friends, on the court of life and see what you can do. Manage those emotions…move past an obstacle, and experience the rewards of accomplishing something on your own.
